Sandra L. “Sandy” Budzinski, age 77, of Cheboygan passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 7, 1941 in Cheboygan, the daughter of the late Patrick and Merle (Shessia) McGovern. On November 26, 1960 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Sandy married Harry Budzinski who survives.
Sandy was a homemaker and a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She retired from the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Department as a cook and a correctional officer. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards and making homemade gifts for those she loved by crocheting, knitting and quilting.
After retirement, she loved riding on the back of the motorcycle with Harry. She and Harry put on 140,000 miles enjoying the beautiful landscapes of the United States and Canada, from Nova Scotia to Mt. Rushmore with many trips in between.
In 2009 she made the motorcycle ride of a lifetime with Harry, going to Alaska for two months, camping along the way and enjoying the majestic views. For the last 14 winters, she and Harry soaked up the warmth in Florida where she met an amazing amount of wonderful friends. She enjoyed going and listening to karaoke and wants it to be known that she will be listening for “I Will Always Love You” by Vicki, “Strong Enough To Bend” by Tootsie and “Teddy Bear” by Steve.
Besides her husband Harry, Sandy is survived by her seven children, Harold of Manassas, VA, Albert of Gaylord, Roberta (Tom) Pape of Holy Cross, IA, Lisa (Pat) Bedell of Cheboygan, Tony (Sandy) of Elmira, Melissa (Jeff) Yoder of Cheboygan and Dianne (Pamela) Budzinski of Cheboygan, 15 grandchildren, Herman “Chip”, Harry, Kayla, Scott, Kyle, Derrick, Patrick, Danielle, Jonelle, Tyler, Sarah, Gabrielle, Isabelle, Rachelle and Naysa, six siblings, Pat (Kay) McGovern, Duane (Elka) McGovern, Jack (Eve) McGovern, Pam (Ken) Kitchen, Clayton (Vicki) McGovern and Kathy (Mark) Pruchnicki, her brother-in-law, Jerry Platzer and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Sharon Platzer, Joyce Borowicz and Carol McGovern and her brother-in-law, Steve Borowicz. A memorial mass to be held at Sacred Heart Church in Riggsville will be announced in the spring.
