Ronald E. Christy, 79, of Warren, PA, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at UPMC Hamot Erie, Pa. Ron was born July 28, 1939 in Kane, PA, the son of the late Evan E. and Doris (Leiser) Christy. Ron grew up in Russell City, PA and was a 1957 graduate of Kane High School.

He attended California University of Pennsylvania where he met his wife, Coleen Gavaghan. They were married August 19, 1960 in Frostburg, Maryland. Ron was employed with the U.S. Forest Service for 38 years, from which he retired.

He was a 50 plus year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Warren, PA. where he served as a Deacon. He was a 50-year member of the Kane Lodge #556, Free and Accepted Masons, the Coudersport Consistory, an active member of the Zem Zem Shrine and Zem Zem Hornets, and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters.

He was a board member of the American Cancer Society, and The Pleasant Township Fire Hall. Ron loved spending time with his family, especially at the cottage in Maple Springs on Chautauqua Lake. He enjoyed the outdoors his entire life, bird watching, taking care of his home and garden, and hunting and fishing with his sons.

He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He coached Little League and the Pleasant Panther Flag Football. And was also the Boy Scout leader for Pleasant Troop 45.

Ron will long be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend to many, and for his true care, compassion and great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Coleen (Gavaghan) Christy; three sons: Ryan Christy (Kamille) of Warren, Todd Christy (Joyce) of Pittsburgh, and Dean Christy (Cathy) of Lewisville, N.C. Ron was affectionally know as “Beeps” to his grandchildren, Devan Copley (Jordan) of Sheffield, Lauren Christy and companion Thomas Pellegrino of Warren, Sawyer Christy of Warren, Elijah Highhouse of Warren, Kylie Highhouse of Florida, Dillon and Naomi Christy of Lewisville, N.C.; Josh Ellis of Warren, PA; Sarah Ellis of Pittsburgh, PA; Natalie Corbin of Los Angeles, CA; great grandchildren, Collin and Aiden Ellis of Warren, PA; Colston Copley of Sheffield, PA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his sister Janet Welch.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Pennsylvania Ave, East, Warren, on Monday Sept 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Tuesday Sept 4, at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 Market Street from 10 until noon, at which time a funeral service with be held there with the Rev. Rebecca Taylor, pastor, and The Rev. Jeff Ewing co-officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. Members of the Kane Masonic Lodge will provide a Memorial Rite at 8 pm Monday.
