Fannie W. Donovan, 99, born October 13, 1919, went home to be with her Lord and loved ones on Wednesday October 17, 2018. She left this world with family at her side at the Rouse Warren County Home that had been her residence since April. Fannie was the daughter of Ralph and Eva (Smith) Weaver of Rocky Grove, PA.

Ralph died when Fannie was young leaving her and Eva to love and care for each other and to have many wonderful life experiences and adventures. She was a 1937 graduate of Scranton Tech. She completed nurses’ training at Oil City Hospital and remained friends with many of her classmates through the years and attended numerous alumnae events.

Her nursing skills led her to service in the U.S. Army from 1944-1945. She served at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County Virginia caring for injured soldiers from the European theatre in the waning days of WWII. Fannie returned to Franklin, PA where she met and married William J. Donovan on September 30, 1949.

He preceded her in death (1983). She left her nursing career at Franklin Hospital to raise and care for her two daughters Cynthia Hummel (Dave) Warren, PA and Karen Corigliano (Jeff) Rome, NY. She also cared for numerous ailing family members and friends over the years and later in life volunteered for Visiting Nurses in Franklin.

While in Franklin she was active at Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed its many classes and organizations. When she moved to Warren in 1991 she continued her life of serving and caring for others. She volunteered at WGH for 20 plus years greeting patients and families and tending to and comforting them as they waited on news of loved ones in surgery.

She never hesitated to visit friends that were sick or home bound and often assisted them by providing transportation to appointments and necessary shopping trips. She was a faithful member of the Warren First Church of God and remained active and involved until the last few months of her life. She cherished the fellowship with her church family and was especially grateful when it continued at Rouse.

Activities included bowling with the Sunshine League on Wednesdays, Senior Center classes and blood pressure clinics, CWC at the Church of God and Christian Womens’ Club monthly luncheons not to mention her daily puzzles and reading all types of books. By far the highlights of her life were family and friends. She loved most those special times with her granddaughter Rebecca (Scott Cressley) and most recently her great granddaughter Rylee.

She thought nothing of driving to Rome NY to be with family. She also enjoyed “house sitting” in Franklin so she could visit with friends. Fannie knew she was blessed to have so many healthy years and was thrilled to fill each of those years with wonderful memories and special moments.

She never took any of those moments or any of the people in her life for granted. She knew each day was a gift and she lived each day helping and loving others. The family is so grateful to all who made her 99th birthday so wonderful.

The staff at Rouse Home made Fannie’s time there so special for her and her family. Thanks is not enough. Also thanks to the VA for their invaluable assistance and the church family that meant so much to her.

Friends and family will be received on Monday October 22, 2018 from 5pm until 8 pm at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, 1003 Penna. Ave. E. Warren, PA 16365 and 10 am to 11am at the First Church of God, 1111 Madison Ave, Warren, PA 16365.
