Ronald Joseph Janousek, 88, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain. He was born February 20, 1931 in Phillips, WI, son of the late Mathias and Margaret (Seitz) Janousek. Ron attended Phillips High School and continued his education at Greer Technical School in Chicago for Auto Mechanics.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper out of Fort Bragg, NC. Ron married Margaret Murphy on April 14, 1956 in Lena, Wisconsin. Ron worked as a mechanic most of his life and founded Protech Lube and Wash in 1988 which he operated until his retirement in 1995.

He thoroughly enjoyed his grandkids and they knew that they were loved by him. He also had fun playing his accordion, fishing, and he truly enjoyed people. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret; five children, Mark of Surprise, AZ, Dawn (Dennis) Mellenthin of Green Bay, WI, Trish (Butch) Rieschl of Birchwood, WI, Kim (Nan) Janousek of Green Bay, WI, and Matt (Kristen) Janousek of Iron Mountain, MI, six grandchildren, Andrea (John) Krinke, Dan Mellenthin, Chris (Madison) Rieschl, Tracy (Derek) Kennen, Paige Janousek and Eden Janousek; four great-grandchildren, Adison, Brody, Shelby and Jax; two sisters, Joyce Fryklund and Marian Flaminio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ron was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Janousek; & sisters, Adele Shattuck and Kathleen Lyda. Visitation will be held from 10:00am until 12:00 noon on Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Memorial services will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home.

Rev. Tracy Blagec will officiate. Military funeral honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any local veteran’s charities. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff in the CLC at the V.A.
