Mr. Ronald Leon Creel, age 86, of Westfield, NC, passed away on May 4, 2018, at Central Continuing Care, surrounded by his granddaughters, Angela, April and Alisha. He was born on March 9,1932 to the late John Chester Creel, Jr. and Janie Mae Walker Creel. Mr. Creel is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lee Shelor Creel; two sons, Garland Creel and wife Rebecca and Ronald Creel, Jr. and wife, Diane; four daughters Deborah Fong and husband, Alan; Diann Grigsby; Karen Kasbohm and husband, Don; and Donna Jandreau; fourteen grandchildren, Angela Peyton, Chesty Peyton, April Watson and husband, Jonathan, Garland Creel, Alisha Creel, Calvin Creel, Jr., Gilbert Creel, Donald Creel, Steven Fong, Samuel Fong, Stephanie McElreath and husband Matthew, Jacob Creel, Ashley Creel, Kristie Gagnon, and Samantha Jandreau; one sister, Geraldine Sizemore; one brother, J.C. Creel; and many great-grandchildren.

After serving 20 years in the US Air Force as a fire fighter, he retired with rank of SS GT. He was a highly decorated veteran who served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was honored with many medals and awards including Distinguished Flying Cross, Medal of Valor, Airman’s Medal, and Commendation Service Medal to name a few.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Chester Creel, Sr. and Janie Mae Walker Creel; a son, Calvin Creel; and a brother, Jack Creel. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at State Line Primitive Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Tommy Nichols officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by Pilot Mountain VFW Post 9436 and Mt. Airy VFW Post 2019.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the extra care and love given to him. To his special grandson Chesty, thank you for your special loving way of supporting him in maintaining his independence and love of things he enjoyed, such as maintaining a vegetable garden and fishing.
