Mrs. Sonia “Marie” Stephens Almond, age 84, of Advance, NC, passed away on June 13, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born on June 16, 1933 to the late Wayne William Stephens and Alphia Simmons Stephens. Mrs. Almond is survived by two granddaughters, Shannon (Shawn) Yale and Mandy Cornatzer; a great-grandchild, Kadin Toma; three sisters, Ruby Chilton, Louise Bingman, and Nora Stephens; a brother, Spencer (Kay) Stephens; and the many children she kept over a 20 year period that called her “Mamaw” and she called “All my children”.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenny “Mutt” Almond; her daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Lynn Almond Cornatzer; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray (Mary) Stephens; and two brothers-in-law, Hollis Chilton and Austin Bingman. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 17, 2018 from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at Cox-Needham Funeral Home at 4 P.M. with Rev.

Robert Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
