Rose R. Honzel, 77, of Rockford, IL passed away in her home on Monday, October 15, 2018 with loving family by her side. Rose was born in La Crosse, WI on September 3, 1941, daughter of John and Rose (Cain) Finley. She married John Honzel on April 8, 1961 in Seneca, WI.

Rose graduated from Seneca High School, Class of 1959. She and her husband, John were members of St. Rita Catholic Church for 52 years. Rose was often involved with St. Rita, serving hot lunches at the school as well as… Read More » baking for funeral luncheons.

She worked as a waitress at the restaurant in Marshall Fields and later managed the candle department at Country Accents. Throughout life, Rose especially enjoyed gardening, baking and playing euchre and cribbage. She had a special love for her children, grandchildren, and family gatherings.

Her family was everything to her. She will be dearly missed. The family would like to extend special thanks to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center and OSF Home Health and Hospice for their kindness, care and compassion with Rose, as well as OSF Oncology who cared for Rose for the past 15 years.

Surviving relatives include her loving husband, John; 5 children, Rose (Dave) Weck of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, John (Kim Anderson) Honzel of Machesney Park, IL, Mary Struthers of Plover, WI, Richard (Robin DiNardo) Honzel of Wheaton, IL and Mark (Donna Burkey) Honzel of Rockford, IL; 8 grandchildren, Ali, Sarah, Zane, Heather, Emily, Miranda, Brooke and Becca; brothers, Jack (Annie) Finley, Dick (Barb) Finley; sisters, Bridget (Charlie) Wyrick, Janet (Barry) Roghair, Joann (Peder) Swanson and Mimi (Bill) Malone. She is predeceased by her parents; sister, Mary Ellen Finley and brother, Jim Finley. Visitation will take place from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Road, Rockford, IL, 61103.

Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018 at St. Rita Catholic Church with Reverend William R. Wentink officiating, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive, Rockford, IL 61109. Burial will conclude in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to OSF Hospice Care of Rockford.
