Roy “Pete” Cox March 07, 1935 – December 05, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Roy Dean “Pete” Cox, 83, of Burlington, passed away December 5, 2018, at Coffey County Hospital. Pete was born at Burlington on March 7, 1935, the son of Ernie and Stella (Turner) Cox. He grew up in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1953.

Pete excelled in track and basketball for the Wildcats, and continued playing basketball on town teams for many years. On November 21, 1953, he was married to Barbara Joan Watt. They were parents of three children, suffering the loss of an infant daughter and later their 15-year old son, Ronnie, in a tragic car accident in 1969.

Pete also was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Bolyard, and four brothers, Charles, Junior, Frank and Dale Cox. On July 20, 1973, Pete was married to Juanita (Pope) Tweedy at Burlington, and her children, Cindy and Mike became part of his family. She preceded him in death in 2006.

Pete worked as a concrete finisher, and was a foreman in the construction of the Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant, in addition to many other projects in Topeka and around the country. He also had worked as a logger in his younger days. He was a founding member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles aerie in Burlington, and enjoyed many nights of dancing and fellowship there.

He loved to hunt and fish, and treasured his time outdoors with friends. He is survived by his son, Terry Cox and wife Brenda of Burlington, daughter Cindy Stohs and husband Glen of LeRoy, and son Michael Tweedy and wife Terri of Burlington; by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and good friends. The family will receive friends for visitation at 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, proceeding to Graceland Cemetery for graveside memorial services at 2:00 PM.
