Rochester Dale, Sr. “Gator” “Hand Full” Roychester Dale, Sr. was born on September 21, 1957, in Monroe County, AL, to James Dale Sr. and Ula Bell Stanley Dale. He was one of ten children. A kind spirited person, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized into the Bright Morning Star Church where he worshipped throughout his lifetime.
Prior to his illness, Roychester sang in the choir, supported his church and was dedicated to his Pastoral leadership. An outstanding high school football player, Roychester was a proud 1975 graduate of Frisco City High School. He was proud to be a “Whippet” and never stopped supporting his Alma Mater.
Shortly after graduating, he began working at Landlubber in Frisco City. In October of 1978, Rochester married Cynthia Johnson Dale. Their union brought about the birth of two sons, Roy Jr., and Brandon.
A dependable provider, he worked for Vanity Fair Textile Mills for 29 years, before retiring. His work ethics earned him the respect of his colleagues. Even after retirement, he maintained and operated his own taxi service.
Roychester had a big personality and enjoyed the company of laughter from family and friends. For many years, he coached Baseball and Youth and Men’s basketball in the Coliseum, old gym of BIA School in Clausell, and the YMCA. “Gator” and “Hand Full”, as he was affectionately called, was the highlight of any sporting activity.
He often gathered at Ghee’s place, Cannon or other local spots to exchange stories and laughter with friends. He didn’t drink alcohol, but his intoxicating laughter caused people to seek his presence, simply to be entertained. His giving spirit was obvious and if he could help someone, he would without hesitation.
On Saturday, June 2, 2018, the Lord had counted up Roychester’s timber and his mansion in Heaven had been prepared. From his home, he peacefully left behind the woes of this earthly world and was received into God’s Kingdom. He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, including Lucy and Barbara Ann.
Roychester leaves to cherish his memories, two sons: Roychester Dale, Jr. of Mobile, AL and Brandon Dale of Erie, PA; one sister: Sandra Dale of Frisco City, AL; six brothers: James “Cookie” (Ann) Dale of Monroeville, AL, D.L. Dale, Mickey (Lisa) Dale and John Dale all of Frisco City, AL, Arthur James (Jamie) Dale also of Mobile, AL, and Frank (Gloria) Dale of Montgomery, AL; eight grandchildren: Trey, Nysair, Jessenya, Queen, Pauly, Brandon Jr., Rocco, Jamison; two devoted caregivers: Cynthia Dale and Gracie Lee; a host of nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and many friends.
