Ruben Ybarra, age 63, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at his home. Ruben was born on December 19, 1955 in Granite City, IL, a son of Concepsion (Gonzalez) Ybarra of Granite City, IL and the late Cornelio Ybarra. Ruben was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, IL.

Ruben enjoyed playing soccer in his younger years. He played on the 1972 Granite City High School Warriors soccer team that won the first state championship. Ruben retired from the maintenance department at American Steel in Granite City, IL, after many years of dedicated service.

Ruben loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his father, Ruben was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Mendoza.

In addition to his dear mother, Ruben is survived by his loving siblings, Jaime (Julie) Ybarra of Granite City, IL, David Ybarra of Granite City, IL, Connie (Janice) Ybarra of Troy, IL, Antonio Gonzalez of Mexico, Lucy (Kenny) Dixon of Ladue, MO and Lisa (Juan) Villasenor of Granite City, IL; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of his life, a funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Granite City, IL, with Father Jeff Holtman officiating.

Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL. Memorial donations may be given in the form of masses. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
