Ruby Lucille (Evans) Smith, 83, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018 at Heritage Center. Ruby was born in Butler County, Kentucky on August 29, 1935 to the late Arlen and Julie (Daughtery) Evans. Ruby was a child of God and a faithful member of New Haven Baptist Church.

She enjoyed spending time at the casino and horse races, listening to country and soul music and watching the Young and Restless and the Price is Right. Ruby’s greatest joy came from spending time… Read More » with her family, especially her three generations of grandchildren and planning family reunions and gatherings. She had a servants heart volunteering for the March of Dimes and caring for those around her, in particular her elderly relatives.

Ruby worked at Horstketter’s Tavern for 42 years. While working at Horsketter’s the patrons, owners and other staff became dear friends. She loved them like her own family.

Ruby is survived by her daughters, Rosalie Elaine Whittington of Evansville, IN, Catherine Payton (Jerry) of Beaver Dam, KY, Deborah Roach of Hartford, KY; son, David Thomas Smith of Evansville, IN; sister, Bedie Evans Carmon of Owensboro, KY; sister-in-law, Sandra Evans; grandchildren, Jerome (Ashley), Jason (Gayle), Michelle, Ashley, Zack, Morgan, Laura (Bill), Megan, Stacy (Gary), Tosha, Melissa and Julie; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Rebecca Ruth Smith and Wanda Lucille Smith; son, Gerald Douglas Smith; sisters, Gracie Brown, Vada Kiper and Dorothy Vessels; brothers, Ollie Bratcher, Wesley Evans and Curtis Evans; and by her grandchildren, Robin and Bobbie Jo. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave.

, Evansville, IN 47711 with Rev. Jack Feldbusch officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Heritage Center for all of their care and compassion.
