Rupert L. DeWyer, Sr. August 27, 1927 – January 03, 2019 Share this obituary Local Florists View/Sign Guest Book RUPERT L. DeWYER Rupert L. DeWyer, Sr., age 91, of Woodstock, VA, went to his eternal home on January 3, 2019. Son of Vernon and Ferol DeWyer, “Rupe” was born August 27, 1927. He grew up in Home Camp, Clearfield County, PA and graduated from Du Bois High School.

He was a World War II veteran. Rupe worked for many years as a civilian for the Air Force in Middletown, PA, and later for the Navy in Washington, DC and Virginia. He retired July 22, 1983.

After his retirement from the government, he was a partner with his son, Bud, in Mill Creek Nursery, located in Richfield, PA where he and his wife Betty lived for over 15 years. Along with maintaining the nursery grounds and his own property, he enjoyed fixing outdoor furniture, bird houses and feeders in his shop. He loved the outdoors and nature including his fish pond.

He loved playing and watching competitive sports and golf. His favorite teams were the Duke Blue Devils and the Washington Redskins. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years; daughter, Lore Fogle and son-in-law Terry Fogle of Fort Valley, VA; son, Rupert “Bud” DeWyer and daughter-in-law Cathy DeWyer of Richfield, PA; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

All of whom he loved very much. A memorial service will be held at Antioch Church of the Brethren in Woodstock, VA on Friday, January 18 at 11 am. At a later date, a private family gathering will be at his final resting place at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Indiantown Gap, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Family Promise of Shenandoah County.
