Ruth Ann Christensen October 10, 1948 – January 30, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Ruth Ann Christensen, 70, of Hiawatha, died peacefully Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha with her loving family by her side. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date. Ruth Ann was born on October 10, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Marcella (Spears) Christensen.

She was raised on the family farm north of Toledo, IA, graduating from South Tama High School in 1966. Following high school, Ruth received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught in the North Tama County school system and later at a cosmetology school in Iowa City.

Ruth worked at the Frank Magid Co. in Cedar Rapids for over 20 years and then at Kirkwood Community College until her retirement. Ruth enjoyed doing various kinds of needlework and crocheted prayer shawls. She also enjoyed reading, shopping in antique stores and was an avid viewer of Northern Iowa Panther and Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football games.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Harriet (Alan) Tomlinson, Marshalltown, IA; her brother, Martin (Laura) Christensen, Toledo, IA; a niece, Lisa Tomlinson; a nephew, Andrew (Ashley) Christensen; several cousins and many good friends. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date.
