RUTH’s Obituary Ruth R. Smith, age 92, resident of Moose Lake, MN died peacefully on Tuesday, February 5th, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake, MN. She was born to William and Inga (Lyngen) Reimers on July 13th, 1926 in Moose Lake, MN. Ruth moved to Jackson, MI at age 14 and graduated from Jackson High School in 1944.

She was an intelligent woman, earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education from Michigan State University. Ruth married Norman R. Smith in Jackson, MI on December 19th, 1959. She worked at Homer High School in Homer, MI as the school counselor, for both high schoolers and elementary aged children.

Education wasn’t just her career, it was her passion. After retiring, she continued to educate and help children for nearly 30 years. In 2010, Ruth moved to Barnum, MN.

She made her final home at Kenwood Place in Moose Lake. Ruth enjoyed classical music and community theater, and was also a devoted Michigan State Spartans basketball fan. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Inga; husband, Norman; brothers, Walter and Leonard Reimers, and her twin brother, Richard Reimers; and sisters, Evelyn Anderson, Laura Robertson, and Helen Olsen.

Ruth will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Lillian Reimers. A memorial service for Ruth will be held later in the spring of 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church of Homer, MI.
