Samuel “Sam” Baxter Pruitt, age 60, passed away March 29, 2019. He was born in Union, SC was a son of the late Keith Lander Pruitt and Mildred Smith Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt was a former Paramedic with the Richland County EMS, a former Sheriff Deputy with Newberry County Sheriffs Office, and a former Officer with the Whitmire Police Department.

Sam was an avid golfer, enjoyed basketball, coaching Little League Teams, while also, volunteering at the Whitmire Recreation Department. Mr. Pruitt is survived by his daughter, Alexandra Simpson and her husband, Robert of Newberry; his loved one, Rhonda Sherfield and her daughter, Ryleigh Sherfield. In addition to his parents Mr. Pruitt is predeceased by his sister, Debbie Pruitt; his brother, Lanny Pruitt; and his nephew, Randy Owens.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 11 AM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Whitmire. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Whitmire Recreation Department, 95 Main Street, Whitmire, SC 29178.
