Sandra Faye Lownes, 69, of Oval, died Wednesday evening April 18, 2018, at her home. Born June 26, 1948, in Reading, she was the daughter of Mahlon Weitzel and the former Anne Weller. For many years she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Bastress.

She faithfully served her community as a slow pitch softball coach, volunteered at the Breast Health and Cancer Center at Divine Providence Hospital, was active with Relay for life for 10 years, and devoted her life to being a foster parent for 40 children. Sandra was a Cub Scout Leader to pack 86 and pack 41, and for many years was a Boy Scout Leader and a Vigil Member of the Order of Arrow. She served on the Camp Staff at Camp K. She is survived by her loving husband, Murray R. “Dick” Lownes, they were united in marriage May 19, 1973, in Leesport Pa.

Also surviving are her two sons, Christopher M. (Traci) Lownes, of South Williamsport and Joseph M. Lownes, of Jersey Shore; 5 grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Linda) Weitzel, of Muhlenberg, Pa. ; and a sister, Edna (Forrest) Blatt, of Myerstown, Pa. A funeral mass honoring the life of Sandra will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the Immaculate Conception Church, 5973 Jacks Hollow Road, Williamsport.

Friends and family may call 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, April 24, 2018, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Father Bert Kozen will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sandra’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society at PO Box 42040, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123.
