Sandra “Sandy” Lynn DeSaye Allen, 70, of Gilbert, passed away January 28, 2019, with all three of her children by her side. Born on January 17, 1949, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Barbara Chase DeSaye. Sandy graduated from Mt.

Eden High School in Hayward, California in 1967. One week after graduation from high school, on June 17, 1967, she married the love of her life, the late Jim L. Allen. They were married for 47 years before his passing in 2014.

At the age of 40, Sandy decided to pursue her life long dream of becoming a teacher. She enrolled in school at Columbia College where she completed her BA in education in only three years, graduating Suma Cum Laude in 1993. She went on to teach special education in the Gilbert school system for nearly 20 years, working tirelessly and changing the lives of countless children.

Sandy is survived by her brother, Greg DeSaye, of North Dakota, her daughter, Staci Blakely (Chris), of Lexington, two sons, John L. Allen (Cerissa), of Columbia, and Brian K. Allen (Carole) of Lexington, as well as 6 adoring grandchildren: Lauren, Kirsten, Jordan, Elizabeth, Megan, and Amanda. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, February 1, 2019 at Barr-Price Funeral Home, 609 Northwood Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Reverend Mendle Baker and Reverend John C. Muller will officiate.

The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lexington One Educational Foundation LEAP Program.
