Sheila Sutton Woosley, 78, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2018 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. She was born in Oneonta, New York, on October 3, 1939, the daughter of the late Robert H. Sutton and Ethel M. Sutton. She attended nursing school at Syracuse University, and spent many years as a nurse in various physician’s offices.

She worked for the Buffalo Department of Health in the early 60’s. After attending OCS, she served as naval officer and nurse at Bethesda Naval Hospital, starting in around 1963. There she met her husband Michael Woosley, also a naval officer.

Starting in the 1980’s she served as a pediatric nurse at practices in Delaware, Texas, and Atlanta. When she was healthy, she enjoyed playing golf and tennis, bridge with her neighbors, and going to Rehoboth Beach. She retired in the mid-1990s and was able to travel to Hawaii, Alaska, and the Panama Canal.

In her later years, as multiple sclerosis took her mobility, she enjoyed visiting the stores around Waynesboro, shopping in catalogs, and ordering items from her favorite online stores. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed their frequent visits and regular trips to Cracker Barrel. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Michael L. Woosley, Sr

She is survived by her children Michelle Maines and Mike Woosley, Jr., along with 5 grandchildren, Lauren Maines, Diana Woosley, Chance Woosley, Sylvia Woosley, and Evelyn Woosley. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife, and will be sorely missed by her family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the Main Street United Methodist Church, 601 West Main Street, Waynesboro.
