Shelton “Shelt” Godwin age 92 of Chadbourn passed on Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Angel in Whiteville. Final rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Buddy Seay officiating. Interment will follow in the Mercer Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home. He was the husband of the late Geneva “Jill” Smith Godwin and the son of the late Lorena Fowler Godwin and Albert Godwin. Mr. Godwin was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannine Godwin Wright; twelve siblings, Lonzie Godwin, Walter Godwin, Roy Godwin, Perry Godwin, Guidie McPherson, Nellie Garrell, Lottie Cartrette, Katie McPherson, Maybelle Sellers, Zellie Boswell, Jake Godwin and Ivey McPherson.

Mr. Godwin honorably served his county during WWII in the US Army/Air Force. He is survived by three sons, Ronald G. Godwin, Danny Godwin and Delane “Sam” Godwin all of Chadbourn; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn is serving the family.
