Sherri Lee Bowyer July 02, 1947 – February 01, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Sherri Lee Bowyer, 71, of rural Columbia City died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2019 at Visiting Nurse Hospice Home, Fort Wayne where she was a resident for the past week. She was born July 2, 1947 in Rochester, Indiana a daughter of Carl Jacob and Patsy R. (Sixbey) Evans. Her formative years were spent in Fulton County.

She graduated from Kewanna High School in 1965 and was involved in the Sunshine Society, Drama Club, Marching Band, Cheerblock among many other activities. She continued her education at Ball State University earning a bachelor’s degree in education. She received a master’s degree in education at North Carolina Central University.

After college, she taught business at Prairie Heights High School in Lagrange, IN. She was a substitute teacher over the years in Allen and Whitley counties. When her daughter was born, she became a homemaker and later taught at Keystone Schools in Fort Wayne, IN.

, before retiring. On June 7, 1970, she was united in marriage to Richard W. Bowyer. They made their home in Rome City, Kendallville, Fort Wayne, Greencastle, Raleigh, NC, and in 1990, Columbia City.

Active throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally. She was a volunteer for the Distinguished Young Women Program and “Art Around The Square”. She enjoyed playing Bunco, participated in water aerobics at the local Y and held season tickets to the musical series at the Embassy Theatre and Wagon Wheel Playhouse.

An accomplished quilter, she enjoyed sewing with her friends and was a member of the Piecemakers at The Chapel, the church she most recently attended. She was also a member of the Evening Bells Extension Homemakers. As her daughter was a dancer for the Indiana Pacers, she never missed a game when she was dancing and later enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the games.

Her pride and joy were her family and grandchildren and cherished relationships with many close friends. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Patrick) Duggan, Fishers; grandchildren, Marlee and Maxson Duggan, her mother, Patsy R. Evans, Kewanna; a sister, Vicki (John) Evans-Harden, Danville and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Jacob Evans, her niece Vicki (Bowyer) Hanes and her husband Richard Bowyer in 2013.

The funeral service is 10 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial to follow immediately at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Kewanna. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
