Obituary for Shirley Cathleen Copeland SHIRLEY CATHLEEN COPELAND, 94 years of Darlington, MD, died on Thursday, September 6, 2018 in the University of Maryland St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Towson, MD. Married for 66 years at the time of his passing in December 2009, she was the beloved wife of James William Copeland, Sr. Born on April 25, 1924 in Bland, VA, she was one of eleven children born to the late John A. and Nancy (Chandler) Davis. Shirley was a longtime member of Dublin United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School for countless years.

Shirley had worked as a seamstress for the former Bata Shoe Company of Belcamp, MD for over 25 years until her retirement in 1985. Her family remarked that she loved to tend her flower gardens, host family events/holidays and eat crabs. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by 3 children: Joan Copeland of Port Deposit, MD Debra Phillips and her husband Blair of Darlington, MD James W. Copeland Jr and his wife Mary Beth of Darlington, MD 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith D. Rudisill and 10 siblings. A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 6-8 p.m.at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta PA 17314. The funeral service will be held the following day at 11 a.m. at Dublin United Methodist Church, 1528 Whiteford Rd, Street, MD 21154 with Reverend Linda S. Yarrow officiating followed by internment at Darlington Cemetery, Darlington, MD.
