Shirley I. LeSuer, 87, of Central City, formerly of Hordville, died on January 7, 2019 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Ford Shenk officiating. Burial will be at the Arborville Cemetery near Polk.

Shirley Irene was born on April 11, 1931 to Foster M. and Iva L. (Colby) Scott in rural Polk, Nebraska. Shirley grew up in the Polk area, and graduated from Polk High School. Following high school she worked at East Gate Café in Central City, until she decided to attend Kearney State College.

Following her graduation from Kearney State College, she began teaching in Litchfield. She also taught at a couple of small country schools and would eventually teach at Hordville, where she retired from fulltime in 1968. Following her retirement, Shirley would help substitute teach when needed.

On September 14, 1951 Wilbur “Bill” and Shirley LeSuer were united in marriage at Central City. To this union two children were born, Sharon and Jim. Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hordville as well a member of The Oddfellows.

She enjoyed playing card games at the Polk Senior Center, putting together puzzles, and going to sporting events to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren compete. Those left to cherish her memory are her son-in-law; Ron Shoup of Hordville, her sister; June Church, 2 grandsons and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter; Sharon Shoup, her son; Jim LeSuer, 3 brothers; George Scott, Ray Scott, and Billy Scott and 4 sisters; Marvelle Howe, Margie Cerny, Doris Cermak, and Thelma Lohse.
