Obituary for Sonya “Sophie” Rudolph Shabinsky Sonya Shabinsky passed away December 7th after a long and valiant fight with breast cancer, surrounded by her immediate family. She was 53 years old. Sonya was born July 1st, 1965 in New York City and grew up in Nyack, NY.
After graduating from Nyack High School, she attended Cornell University, graduating in 1987 and earned a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University in 1993. After returning to Nyack to raise her children, she worked for the Veteran’s Administration helping combat veterans. Sonya is survived by her two children, Ian and Hope Leinbach, her brother Ivan Rudolph-Shabinsky and her mother, Xenia Kalinin.
The family asks that any donations in Sonya’s name be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, whose doctors and nurses were a great help to her over many years.
