Speedy’s Obituary Speedy Dean Branstetter was born April 25, 1938 in Galena, MO to Doff and Ada (Wells) Branstetter and departed this life on January 30, 2019 from injuries sustained in a hunting accident on January 10, 2019. Speedy was a star basketball player in high school and college. He graduated from John Brown University and then taught math and was a basketball coach at several schools here in Southwest Missouri.

He was a principal at Hollister High School and then Superintendent at Blue Eye when he retired. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame at John Brown University. After college he married Patricia (Patty) Costner Branstetter and to that union two sons were born, Kevin and Chris.

Patty preceded him in death. In 2004 he married his current wife, Bonnie Branstetter. When Speedy and Bonnie married, he accepted her sons and grandchildren as his own.

Speedy loved sports, especially archery deer hunting, watching Cardinals’ baseball games, watching college basketball (favorite teams were North Carolina and KU) and he dearly loved playing golf and was teaching his young grandson, Lawson to play. He especially loved putting out a garden every spring, especially tomatoes and cucumbers. Speedy was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Patty; and son Rob Barnes.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons, Kevin Branstetter of Branson, MO, Chris Branstetter of New York, NY, Randy Barnes (Michelle) of Lawrence, KS, Rick Barnes of San Diego, CA and Ryan Barnes (Latonya) of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Carly (Addison) Couch, Evan (Courtney) Barnes, Lawson Barnes and Sadie Barnes; brother, Doyle (Janice) Branstetter; sister, Shirley Jones; special nephew, Dean Branstetter (who he enjoyed many hunting trips with); special friends, Terry Snowden and Jordan Chapman (he thought of them as other sons); several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and a host of many friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 3, 2019 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Sanctuary of Hope Church Branson, MO. Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Ozark Memorial, Branson, MO.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Judes. Arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home Kimberling City, MO.
