Stanley James Dittmer, 76, after a short battle with cancer, passed away at Covered Bridge Health Campus on May 27, 2019 with his family at his side. Stan was the son of J. Avery and Melba Dittmer of Seymour. He was a graduate of Seymour High School, Class of 1960 (Valedictorian) and received a bachelor’s degree and MBA from Indiana University, Bloomington.

From 1967-70, Stan was a Captain in the US Army, serving at military hospitals in Washington DC and South Korea. While Stan had various careers which included teaching, working at I. Magnum, selling real estate in San Francisco, and making home improvements, his passion for nearly 30 years was enjoying life in California. He developed extremely close, life-long friends who joined him in playing tennis, skiing, and hiking.

His favorite annual event was the Abalone Dive where he would entertain friends around the campfire by playing the Great Karnak. Stan was a wonderful host and enjoyed showing many family members and out-of-town friends San Francisco and the beautiful Wine Country. In 2000 Stan moved back to Seymour, but he often returned to California since Indiana summers were too hot for him!

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Seymour American Legion. Stan was a great cook and always hosted holiday dinners for his family. He enjoyed reuniting with old high school friends each Oktoberfest.

An avid Hoosier fan, Stan kept Dittmers nation-wide posted on all the IU games. Stan is survived by his brothers John (Ellen), Randy “Dude”, and Tony Dittmer, sisters Polly Berent and Patty Cress, and loving soulmate Sally Fenton of Maryland. Always a favorite uncle, Stan was loved by nephews David (Marie) Dittmer, Jonathan (Jeanne) Berent, Matt (Katie) and Scott (Michelle) Dittmer and niece Julie (George) Hutchinson and their children.

Funeral Services for Stanley will be held at the Voss & Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 2:00pm. Visitation will be in the Chapel two hours prior to the service. Internment will be in the Lutheran Cemetery.
