The son of the late Stephen Fickett Pearsall and Lottie Mae King, Stephen Carroll Pearsall 75, of Riegelwood died Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center. He was born in Wilmington, NC and his grandfather, William Wilson Pearsall was born in Duplin County. Stephen was raised in Rocky Point, NC and was a veteran of the US Air Force.

His assignments were in San Antonio, TX; Greenville, MS; Greenville, SC; Portsmouth, NH; Guam; Omaha, NE; Chicopee Falls, MA; Riverside, CA and Washington, DC. Stephen was a CMSgt (E-9) selectee but elected retirement in lieu of reassignment and retired in 1982 as a SMSgt (E-8). The majority of his career was spent as a detailee to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

It was while in Washington that he became interested in genealogy and was fortunate enough to have access to the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and the Daughters of the American (DAR) Library. Stephen retired from the CIA in 1999 where he had assignments in support of the development and operation of technical intelligence collection systems with the Office of Development and Engineering, Central Imagery Office, National Imaging and Mapping Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office. Stephen then went to work with the Government Systems Division, Qwest Communications, Fairfax Office in Northern Virginia.

He resigned from Qwest in August 2000 to be full time care giver to his wife, Enid Shevelin. Enid died of cancer in 2003 and Stephen returned to Rocky Point. In 2004 he married Nancy Holcomb White King whom he met at a dance in Wilmington.

Nancy was born in Whiteville, NC. Stephen is an amateur Genealogist and Family Historian. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Purcell Family Genealogical Association; past President of he Fairfax Resolves Chapter, Virginia Sons of the American Revolution (SAR); and had a short tenure as President of the Pender County Historical Society.

He belongs to a number of Historical Associations and has assisted numerous others in their genealogical quest. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Holcomb King Pearsall; daughters, Stephanie Renee Romano of Greenville, NC, Monica Marie Ferrucci of Portage, MI, April Lynn Soles of Riegelwood, NC; son, Kelton King of Delco, NC; Sons-in-law, Rodney Boham and Mark Soles; Daughter-in-law, Judy King; grandchildren, Stephen Anthony Leonard Romano, Emily Bonham, Joe Ferrucci, Corey Ferrucci, Jessica Ferrucci, Renee Soles, Adam Moore, Ariel Stewart, Bobby Stewart, Emily King, and Drew King; great grandchildren, Raelynn Moore, Scarlett Rose Stewart, Emmet King; and many nieces and nephews; brothers, William Hill Pearsall and Charles Edward Pearsall; sister, Rebecca P. Spell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Enid Shevelin Pearsall (2003); father, Stephen Fickett Pearsall (1994); mother, Lottie Mae King (1980); grandson, Christopher Aaron Romano (1999); son-in-law, Leonard Anthony Romano (1999); Sisters, Brenda Pearsall Cayton (2019) and Mary Helen Pearsall (2016); brothers-in-law, Ralph R. Cayton (2017) and Jerry T. Spell (2008).

Is funeral service will be at 2:30 pm Monday, February 18, 2019 at Delco Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Dewey Ball officiating. Burial will be in Pearsall Cemetery.
