Obituary for Steven Allan Shumate Steven Allan Shumate, 61, of Louisville, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Monday, July 02, 2018 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. He was born July 8, 1956 in Louisville, a son of Betty Shumate and the late Eldridge J. Shumate. Steve was a retired Special Education teacher for the Jefferson County Public Schools.

He worked with special needs, those children with behavioral issues, and had a love for and enjoyed teaching them all. Steve never met a stranger anywhere, had an amazing sense of humor and could always find something to talk about. He was a little on the spoiled side, receiving breakfast in bed everyday by his loving wife, Linda.

He is preceded in death by his father, Eldridge, who just recently passed, and a granddaughter, Baby Grace. Steve is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda; mother Betty; two sons, Chris (Meredith) and Casey (Alexandra) Shumate; five grandchildren, Addie, Chloe, Gates, Robert and Gigi; two step-sons, Chris (Jillian) and Michael (Michelle) Dixon, with two step-grandbabies on the way. He is also survived by his brothers, Brian (Dana) Shumate and Jeff (Angel) Shumate; loving nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “in St. Matthews” with visitation prior, starting at 10:00 a.m. and a fellowship to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in the form of contributions may be made to Cedar Lake Lodge or the St. Joseph’s Home for Children.
