Steven Clingenpeel, age 53, passed away suddenly on October 16, 2018. The heartache of Steve’s unexpected passing is and will continue to be only surpassed by the fondness of his family’s collective memories of his warm smile, contagious laughter, and always-sincere concern for those he loved most. Born to Don Clingenpeel and Kaye Homan on April 30, 1965 in Canoga Park, California, Steve spent time as a boy living in Ohio, the Dallas-area in Texas, later spending most of his formative years in Kaysville, Utah.
Steve was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From an early age, Steve had a deep love of sports, football and baseball in particular. Steve was a passionate, enthusiastic and unapologetic Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan, loudly cheering on his beloved teams.
Steve worked for over 30 years at Rocky Mountain Power, most recently as a Journeyman Estimator. He always took pride in his work, known and respected by his peers for his attention to detail and strong desire to make others around him better as he perfected his craft. He found the greatest joy during his work years serving as a mentor to new Rocky Mountain Power apprentices, spending hours on end sharing so many best practices learned by experience and knowledge gained over decades of hard work.
While in high school, Steve met and later married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Shauna Oldham on June 30, 1983. As teenage sweethearts, their journey was the truest of American Dreams; never easy, always worth it and full of love. Over 35 years together, they shared so many memories and adventures.
Their story is one full of true love, hope, loyalty, and kindness, one that is to be admired and cherished. Steve and Shauna raised two daughters, Amy and Megan, both of whom were the apple of Steve’s eye. He was an adoring and doting father who taught his children by word and deed the importance of hard work, fierce loyalty, and light-heartedness.
Megan and Amy are and will always be grateful for the friendship and example of their “daddy,” a title Steve earned and revered more than any other. In recent years, he also assumed the loving title of “Papa” by his adoring grandchildren, Chelsea, Ryker and Juliet. He spent hours on end playing with each of them, usually on his hands and knees, always making them feel happy, loved and special.
Steve is survived by his loving family; his sweetheart and soulmate, “Shoo” Shauna, daughter “MeMe” Amy Dickamore (Mark), daughter “May May” Megan (Larry Li), and three grandchildren, Chelsea, Ryker and Juliet. He is also survived by his father, Don (Martha) Clingenpeel, mother, Kaye (Kenzie) King, sister Cindi (Steve) Neutzman, siblings Korman (Kristy) King, Kevin (Sandra) King, Kolton (Coral) King, Kishell (Millen) Gold, Kris King, and Kody (Nikki) King. He is preceded in death by his friend and father-in-law, Leon Oldham, brother, Little Kenzie, and his beloved puppy, Daisy.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held Monday, October 22, 2108 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
