Susan Jane Hubbard Lawson 71 was graciously accepted into heaven on Saturday December 29, 2018 at 9:18 am at her home of 44 years that she had made with the love of her life Ronnie Lawson. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing. She had passed from complications of Corticobasal Degeneration.
Susan was born August 29, 1947 in Richmond, Kentucky to Silas Hubbard and Ollie Marie Blagrave. She had spent her younger years there graduated from Madison Central High school in 1965. She briefly attended Eastern Kentucky University to study biology.
She eventually attended Bartholomew Consolidated School of Practical Nursing program where she received Lucille Keller Foundation award for Highest Scholastic Achievement. She worked at Bartholomew County Hospital name later changed to Columbus Regional Hospital for 40 years for before retiring in 2011. March 31, 1974 Susan married the love of her life Ronnie Lawson in Madison, Indiana at Trinity United Methodist Church.
She wore her wedding dress that she had proudly made with her mother and had requested it be placed at the foot of her casket. Susan and Ronnie spent their final years travelling all over the United States in their Model A Ford “Miss Daisy”. They had travelled coast to coast to Canada and Texas.
Susan was blessed with four children Lisa Lynn Walker (Tony) of North Vernon, Ronnie William Lawson (Leah) of Austin, Texas, Susan Hubbard Lawson Wagner of Columbus and Matthew Erick Eugene Hubbard Lawson (Don Pierce) of Kent, Washington. She was the grandmother of five Grandchildren Siearrha, Sheyenne, Jonathan, Quinten, and Benjamin, and five Great grandchildren Destinee, Vanessa, Preston, Harley and Kylie. She was involved with many of their activities from Scouts, kids club church group; along with being the taxi driver, housekeeper nurse, cheerleader and master chef.
Susan had many passions from travelling, knitting, sewing, genealogy, and to her love of antiques. One passion that really stood out was her love for helping the homeless. Susan spent several years working with the Horizon House homeless shelter health fair as well as volunteering her time with Volunteers in Medicine.
If there was a need she would do anything to fulfill that need. She was a member of several organizations including Columbus First Church of the Nazarene, six different Model A clubs, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of American Revolution, Order of the Amaranth, and Social Order of the Beauceant. She is survived by her immediate family and her baby sister Priscilla Hubbard who was at bedside caring for her at the time of her death and several nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the staff of Our Hospice of South Central Indiana for their love and care given to Susan especially in her final days. Our family was blessed with the support of all the staff especially at 1:30 in the morning. Also want to include the drivers of Lincare going above and beyond to meet her needs by getting her equipment to her and the kind words from the drivers In lieu of flowers Donations can be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana and to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
The funeral for Susan will be on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Columbus with the Rev. Brian Rogers officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the Church.
An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home by member of Columbus Chapter #339, O.E.S. and a Nursing Honor Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday by members of the Columbus Regional Hospital Nurse’s Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
