Obituary of Susan Ashley Susan Ann Ashley December 31, 1949 – September 19, 2018 44 Year Resident of Santa Cruz County A wake is being planned to honor the life of Susan Ashley; a loving wife, mother, and devoted friend, who passed away at her home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Grass Valley, California, she was 68 years old. Susan worked as a registered nurse with a career that spanned over 34 years.

She earned her early training at Cabrillo College, and then worked for Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Gatos and Watsonville Community Hospital, later retiring with Dominican Hospital. Susan was an accomplished water woman and much loved member of the Santa Cruz Outrigger Canoe Club. She traveled across Monterey Bay via outrigger numerous times and was affectionately known to family and friends as “Aqua Girl”.

Susan was also a skilled tournament poker player and dedicated leader in the recovery community. She leaves countless loving colleagues, co-workers, and lifelong friendships that she felt blessed to have in her life. She is survived by her husband, Steve Ashley, her son and daughter-in-law, Jaya and Koana Tressler and their son Shade, her daughter by marriage, Stephany Ashley, and her brother John Misner and niece Sara Misner.

A paddle out is being planned by the Santa Cruz Outrigger Canoe community. A commemorative plaque will be dedicated to Susan and placed on a bench at Twin Lakes Beach.
