Obituary for Laverne Crawford Dryden Laverne Dryden passed away peacefully in the presence of loving family on September 7, 2018 at the age of 86 in San Jose, CA. Laverne was born on July 14, 1932 to Eliza and William Crawford in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She grew up active in sports and music.

Laverne’s adventurous spirit led her to join American Airlines as a stewardess. On a flight from Dallas, TX to Los Angeles, CA she met her husband-to-be, Richard Dryden. The two wed in the summer of 1958, settled in Manhattan Beach, CA, and lived a wonderful life together for 60 years.

Laverne and Dick became the proud parents to Denise, Mathew, and John Dryden, and grandparents later to Jessica, Alexander, Madison, Reagan, and William. The Dryden family moved from Manhattan Beach to San Jose, CA, in 1968 to take advantage of the upcoming industry in Silicon Valley and open their own business, in which Laverne was a major contributing partner. Laverne and Dick traveled extensively throughout the world for business and pleasure.

Laverne relished relaxation time at the beach. She was an avid golfer and snow skier. One of her most cherished roles was singing in the church choir for over 20 years.

Laverne also loved playing bridge. Through these hobbies, she formed a broad circle of close friends that led to many fond memories. Laverne held family ties dearly and cherished the relationship with her living sister, Sylvia Lunter, and extended family.

She was a loving and devoted mother, wife, aunt, grandmother, and friend. The Dryden family will hold a memorial service and reception on Saturday, September 22 at 2pm, Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3151 Union Avenue, San Jose, CA, 95124. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Laverne’s honor to organizations she supported, The Salvation Army and Disabled American Veterans.
