Suse Ann Bayles Mahalek died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. She passed away in the same home where she was placed on the doorstep at birth and was lovingly adopted by Robert Thomas Bayles and Agnes Pattison Bayles on September 15, 1925. Suse was raised in love that went beyond her parents with special aunts, uncles and cousins she loved and admired.

Suse attended Gerstmeyer Technical School and graduated from Garfield High School in 1943. Suse worked for Merchants National Bank for 42 years before retiring in 1985, holding various job titles throughout her tenure and making many friends and memories along the way. Suse met and married her life love, William C. Mahalek (Bill) and he precedes her in death.

Bill and Suse had five children, William Charles, Jr (Billy), who died at age 3, James Joseph (JJ), Charles Bruce (Charley), Julie Ann and John Howard. Suse was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her smile and personality would light up any room.

She enjoyed her family the most, but next to that were her many girlfriends that she loved dearly. Especially, her card playing and lunch buddies. She was always up for a road trip to the casino or anywhere for an adventure.

Suse Ann was a very caring and giving person and will be remembered for the love, light and wit she shared with all that knew her. Suse also spent countless hours volunteering through the Union Hospital Service League as surgery hostess and at Hux Cancer Center making many friends and memories along the way. Suse is preceded in death by her husband, Bill and sons, Billy and Charley.

Suse leaves behind her sons JJ (Jean) and John (Kim) and her daughter Julie Todd (Ron). Grandchildren; Ryan Mahalek, Casey Mahalek, Darrin Mahalek, Jessica Mahalek, Samantha Mahalek, Jamie Mahalek, Michael Todd, Lauren Kelsheimer and 13 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind special nieces Martha Simpson, Suse Mahalek , Kathy Mahalek and special nephew, Michael Mahalek; special (granddaughter), Amber Payne and family, along with many other friends and neighbors which are too numerous to mention, but loved as family.

A Celebration of Life if planned for Saturday February 9th 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with Memorial Services at 1:00 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN. 47804 The family would like to extend a special thanks to her Southern Care Hospice nurses, especially Bonnie Thompson and all in that organization that assisted her and family through this journey (Jane, Lori, Babs and Susan). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
