Thomas was born in Warren, Arizona, to Orville R. and Gladys B. Robeson on October 3, 1942. He was born and raised in Arizona.

He enjoyed fishing, hiking, hunting, and anything outdoors. He spent the majority of his professional career building homes and businesses in the White Mountain area. He was married to Mary Ford for forty years.

Dean was a veteran serving from December 28, 1960, to December 27, 1966. He reached the rank of A3C in the 63rd Field Maintenance Squadron of the United States Air Force. Dean is survived by his wife, Mary Ford, Show Low; his daughter, Brittany, and her husband, Joshua, of Mesa, Arizona; his son, Cody, and his wife, Joy, of Glendale, Arizona; his son, Steve, of Flagstaff, Arizona, and his granddaughter, Maddison, of Mesa, Arizona.

He is also survived by two sisters and one brother.
