Vergil Olin McArthur “Mac” Born to Life on May 4, 1929, in Sanford, North Carolina, the son of Herbert and Johnsie (nee Caddell) McArthur, Vergil was Born to Eternal Life on November 4, 2018, at Heritage of Deer Creek in New Berlin, Wisconsin. Loving and devoted husband of Dolores (nee Ewe) McArthur for 64 years. Proud father of Brian (Laurie) McArthur and Larry (Mary) McArthur.

Dear grandfather of Cassandra (Trevor) Mason, Kimberly and Stephanie. Preceded in death by his brothers John and Richard. Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Vergil was raised in Carthage, North Carolina and following high school entered the United States Air Force. After his service, Vergil moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, married Dolores, and began a 41 year career at AC Sparkplug/Delco in Oak Creek, Wisconsin as an Electronics Technician and Electrician. Vergil loved learning and was a voracious reader on many subjects.

He was an avid photographer, shooting on a number of different formats and built his own darkroom for processing and printing. “Mac” was a quiet man who enjoyed camping, hiking and traveling with his wife Dolores, family and friends. He would often spend time with his camera on nature trails or in the Boerner Botanical Gardens looking for that perfect photo.

Vergil had an ear for audio, enjoying music both as a listener and a self-taught piano player. He had an interest in trains, both model and full sized rail. Vergil loved technology and became a Ham radio operator earning his “Extra Class” license.

He liked to impart his knowledge to others and taught many things to both his sons. Vergil will be sorely missed by his family and friends. The reverend Billy Graham said “Someday a loving Hand will be laid upon our shoulder and this brief message will be given: “Come home””.

Vergil is home. Committal prayer service and military honors will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at 11:00am at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove, Wisconsin. Memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society requested by the family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage at Deer Creek in New Berlin, Wisconsin for their dedicated care of “Mac”. Also, the Horizon Home Care and Hospice nurses Vincenza, Megan, Kati, Ami, social worker Sandy and Chaplain Richardo for the compassionate care they provided Vergil.
