Vincent Straub March 10, 1926 – January 21, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences Vincent Straub, 92, Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Seminary Manor on Monday, January 21, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Vince was born March 10, 1926, in Brunswick, Missouri, the son of Frederick and Theresa (Clavin) Straub. He married Betty Wright on September 5, 1953, she survives.
Also surviving are his children Margaret Van Loo (Chuck) of Holts Summit, Missouri, Lori Mason (Brian) of Galesburg, Jane Straub of Holts Summit, Missouri, and Jim Straub of Galesburg; his grandchildren Richard Woodson (Danielle), Vincent Straub III (Amanda), Nathan Straub (Sarah), Savannah Straub (Wayne), Kat McCreery (Shane), Craig Mason, Mark Mason, Ryan Straub, and Kaitlin Straub (Marc); and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings including his identical twin brother Victor, his son Vincent Straub II, his granddaughter Angela Straub, and his great-granddaughter Melodee Straub. Vince was an Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War.
He was employed by the Sale Barn in Brunswick, Missouri, for many years and later the Moore Fan Company in Marceline, Missouri, where he retired at age 79. He valued his great friendship with the Moore family and his coworkers. He was also a small livestock farmer while in Brunswick and enjoyed tending to his large garden while living in Marceline.
Because of this, he always enjoyed following the local weather conditions. Faith and family defined his life. Vince was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Brunswick, St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Marceline, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg.
Rarely did you see Vince without the love of his life Betty by his side, always holding one another’s hands wherever they went. He loved her cooking and her strength. He taught his children the values of hard work, unselfishness, honesty, and kindness.
His smile was infectious and full of joy. Vince was known to make his grandchildren handmade trinkets throughout the years and always made them laugh. He loved to play cards with family and friends.
His backyard was often frequented by many birds and stray cats that he left food out for, much to the dismay of his wife. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Friday, January 25 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Brunswick, Missouri. Visitation from 9 to 10:30 AM at the church followed by Rosary service at 10:30 AM.
Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors. Following the services all friends and family are invited to a meal in the St. Boniface Catholic Church basement. Memorials may be made to the St. Boniface Cemetery or the Garden Court at Seminary Manor and mailed to Delaney Funeral Home 1720 N. Missouri Ave.
