HOLYOKE: Virginia J. (Farrell) Redfern, 93, of Holyoke, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Holyoke Medical Center. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late William E. and Julia A. (Myers) Farrell and was a 1941 graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School. Virginia was very proud of her Irish Heritage.

She was employed as an Accountant for more than 20 years in the Holyoke School Department offices, retiring in 1986. Virginia was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and a faithful communicant of St. Jerome Parish. She was the widow of Richard C. Redfern who died April 11, 2009.

Virginia is survived by her beloved children, Karen A. Williams and her husband Erik of Haddonfield, NJ, Richard P. Redfern and his wife Margaret of Avondale, AZ, Wayne A. Redfern and his wife Donna of Milton, NH, Kevin G. Redfern of Holyoke, and Peter J. Redfern and his wife Patricia of Chicopee; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Catherine, Geraldine, and Rose and her brothers, Austin, George, James and William. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 1st from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Chapel of St. Jerome Church. Burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Virginia to American Heart Association, 54C Wayside Avenue, West Springfield, MA 01089 or American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
