Virginia King Davis, 81, a resident of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on January 22. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday at Collins Memorial Methodist Church on Bolton Rd. in Atlanta.

Rev Theresa Coleman and Rev. Randy Walworth will be officiating. Virginia, daughter of Ralph and Mary King, was born on October 30, 1937 in Bainbridge, Georgia.

After graduating from Bainbridge High School, Virginia attended Emory University’s Crawford Long School of Nursing in Atlanta earning her Registered Nurse certification in 1957. Virginia worked in pediatrics and cardiology at Crawford Long Hospital, trauma at North Fulton Hospital, rehabilitative cardiology at Cobb General Hospital, and provided advanced nursing services at Cobb County Health Department from which she retired in 2000. All in all, she accumulated nearly 50 years of nursing experience.

In 1957, while attending nursing school, Virginia married James Ray Carlton with whom she had two children. They were married until Ray’s passing in 1994. In 2000, Virginia married Benjamin Davis, Jr. and they had a home in Blairsville that they loved.

They were married until his passing in 2009. Virginia deeply loved spending time with her family and socializing with her friends. Her most favorite pastime was reading.

And, she also enjoyed volunteering through mission trips and local charities. Her highly contagious smile and unfailing generosity will be greatly missed. Survivors include son, Jay Carlton and his wife Bonnie; daughter Jill Mason and her husband Doug; seven grandchildren, Ally Carlton, Clair Carlton, Annie Rae Carlton, George Carlton, Tyler Mason and his wife Laura Lin, Sydney Weaver and her husband Ryan, Zachary Mason; four sisters Sandra Mack, Judy Fallecker, Linda Moyers, Nina Faye Napier; four brothers Butch King, David King, Joe King, and Tommy King.

Virginia is predeceased by her husbands Ray Carlton and Ben Davis. Contributions may be made in loving memory of Virginia to Red Bird Mission, c/o Coosa Methodist Church, 767 Mulky Gap Road, Blairsville, Ga, 30512. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
