Wayne D. Handy, age 85, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. He was a proud U S Army veteran and a dedicated employee of Dan River, Inc. 8B Dress for over 40 years. As a faithful member of Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 50 years, he sang with joy and praise in a quartet and in the choir.

Wayne was a man of great faith and was most content when singing while tending his garden. In addition to his parents, Richard and Lorene Handy, he was predeceased by a sister, Nellie Jean H. Clark and a brother, Samuel J. “Jack” Handy. He was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his faithful wife of 52 years, Catherine, of the residence, two daughters Janet H. Barber (Timmy), Judy H. Crews (Linwood), granddaughter Abigail B. Crews, grandsons Benjamin W. Barber (Cameron), Will R. Barber, & Justin L. Crews, a step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Barber (Eddie) and sons Jesse Lowery and Dalton Lowery.

In addition, he is survived by a sister Virginia H. Raileanu, and step-brother Al “Buck” Finney (Patsy). Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27th from 6:00-7:30 pm at Swansonville P.H. Church. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, April 28th, also at the church with Rev.

Michael Hearp, Rev. Daryl Joyce, and Rev. Jeff Person officiating.

Interment including military rites will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Swansonville P.H. Church Building Fund. Swicegood Funeral Service is respectfully serving the Handy family.
