On Friday, April 20, 2018, Blanche Marie Voss DeJournette, at the age of 88 found her resting place, as she quietly slipped away at her residence in Pelham, NC. She was born on January 20, 1930, in Caswell County, NC, a daughter of the late Isom Voss and Leona Stokes Voss. Blanche was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.

Blanche was a well-known culinary professional at several area restaurants and aspired to open her own business “BST Caterers”, until she became ill. She retired from Fieldcrest Mills in Eden, NC, as an inspector. She loved the Lord, family and church.

As a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and later joining Blue Stone Missionary Baptist Church, she was a dedicated servant of Christ for many years. Blanche served as a Deaconess, servant leader for the Floral Committee, Beautification Committee, Women’s Conference Committee, Missionary Group No. 1, and the Culinary Committee.

As a community representative, she was a member of the Naomi Chapter 613 Order of the Eastern Star becoming a role model for young ladies in the church and throughout the community. Blanche leaves behind several relatives who will cherish her memory and miss her dearly, a beloved husband of 69 years Theodore DeJournette, Sr.; son, Theodore DeJournette, Jr. (Barbara); daughters, Theresa Lawson (LeRoy); Shirley DeJournette Blackstock (Wilbert); sons, Tommy Michael DeJournette (Vanessa); Larry Darnell Abbott; sisters Barbara Wilson and Mable Abbott; brothers, Rufus, James, and Herbert Voss; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; adopted daughter, Sandra Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Blanche was predeceased by her son Johnny Voss, Sr.; grandson, Johnny Voss, Jr.; sisters, Maggie Adams, Elizabeth Darby; and brothers, Ed, Ivy, and McKinney Voss.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Blue Stone Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. John Doe delivering the eulogy and Dr. Roy Dennis, Jr. presiding over the service. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the church.
