Obituary of W.H. Fields W.H. “Nick” Fields, age 80, of Asheboro died Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Mr. Fields was born January 15, 1938 in Moore county, the son of Wilbur Henry Fields, Sr. and Ailene Foster Fields. Nick was a 1956 graduate of Carthage High School and a 1958 graduate of Auto Diesel College in Nashville, TN.

He worked for the NC Department of Transportation for 36 years and retired in 1999 as superintendent of Division 8. Nick was a member of Faith Alliance Church where he served as a deacon and volunteered for 16 years for Meals on Wheels. He was the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 501 for 20 years at Grace United Methodist Church and was awarded the Boy Scout of America Thayer Award in 1983 and the Silver Beaver Award in 1985.

In addition to putting the Lord first in his life, Nick was a mechanic, so he knew how to get things done. This was true in every aspect of his life. He loved helping his family and others.

He loved working on cars, doing carpentry work and NASCAR. He also loved going on family vacations and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lu Ann Fields and nephew Phil Fields.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanette Thomas Fields; daughters, Judy Smith and her husband Russ of Asheboro and Marty Lakey and her husband Jon of Salisbury; and son, Nicky Fields and his wife Kim of Asheboro; Grandchildren, Spencer Lakey and his wife Jenna, Samuel Lakey and his wife Kayla, Sarah Jane Lakey, Carson Fields, Claire Fields and Jared Smith; great grandchildren, Judah and Asher Lakey; sister, Patsy McAllister and her husband Warren of Washington, NC; brothers, Phillip Fields and his wife Genease Fields of Sanford and Jerry Fields of Carthage, NC. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 12:00-1:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Memorials may be made to Faith Alliance Church, 2148 Cedar Rock Mountain Rd. , Asheboro, NC 27205 or Hospice of Randolph County, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.
