William Arthur McKnight age 84, New Castle resident passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018 at Hancock Regional Hospital Greenfield, Indiana. He was born July 22, 1934 in new Castle, Indiana a son of the late William Arthur McKnight and Leona McKnight and the grandson of the late William Walter and Laura Howell McKnight and Joshua and Julia Garner McKnight. Mr. McKnight was a New Castle resident all of his life and a 1952 graduate of New Castle High School.

He was retired from the United… Read More » States Postal Service after 42 years of service. He had also served as past president of the United Postal Workers Union. Mr. McKnight was active in many civic and social organizations including the First Christian Church where he had served on a Deacon Board of Directors and was a Member of the Bykota Sunday School Class, served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Henry County and was a Big Brother for many years.

, served on the Board of Directors for Bennett House, a facility for children, member and past president of Kiwanis Club where he had served in various capacities of leadership including President, was a member of the Knights of Pythias and was active in many of the projects including the annual Christmas Parade, Scottish Society of Indianapolis, Indiana, Ringo Chapter of the Sons of Confederate Soldiers, Continental Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Sons and Daughters of the Virginia Founding Fathers. After his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service he worked several years for the dollar Store on Broad Street. Mr. McKnight and his wife, Melba enjoyed traveling and visit ed the Holy Land, Scotland and various countries in Europe.

He had also served five years in the Army national Guard. He loved to “tinker” and could repair almost anything. Enjoyed snow skiing most of his life and will be remembered as a man with a keen sense of humor and a heart to help anyone in need.

He especially enjoyed family activities. Left to cherish his loving memory include: his wife, Melba McLane McKnight,; his children, Sabra McKnight Bell and her husband, Jack of New Castle, Indiana, Arthur Charles McKnight and his wife, Beth of New Castle, Indiana, Rick Gann and wife Virginia Dickerson of Indianapolis; four grandchildren: Adam and Jeremy Bell of New Castle , Layla McKnight of Knightstown and Harley McKnight of New Castle; three great grandchildren: Dakota Bell of New Castle, Brittanni Cowan of Muncie, and Piper Brummett of Knightstown; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents and a sister, Geraldine McKnight.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 Am to 1:00 PM on Friday, November 30, 208at First Christian Church on Bundy Ave. New Castle, Indiana. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday November 30, 2018 at First Christian Church on Bundy Ave, New Castle, Indiana with Rev.
