Obituary for Lonnie James Murray Lonnie James Murray, 76, of Spiceland passed away on Friday November 16, 2018 at the Waters in New Castle after a long illness. He was born on May 24, 1942 in Hillsville, Virginia, the son of James L. Murray and Virginia Barnes Murray. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hildegard Murray.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Julie Murray, brothers Douglas and Danny Murray and nephew Douglas Alexander. In addition to Hildegard Lonnie is survived by daughters; Christina Allison of New Castle, Heidi Grider ( Rick) of Spiceland and Cornelia Murray Maiorca Spain and brothers Jerry Murray of Daleville and Donnie Murray of Spiceland. Also surviving is his sister, Sandra Alexander (Phil) also of Spiceland.

Surviving also are nieces Victoria Flaherty, Emilynne Ramsey, Samantha Murray, Abby Slye and Andrea Watts. Lonnie is also survived by his grandchildren; Anakin Allison, Blain Grider, Gweneth Grider, Kirstin Grider, Joshua Pew, and Megan Pew and great-grandchildren Paysen Pew, Jackson Pew, and Adilah Catron. Lonnie was a 1961 graduate of Spiceland High School and received an Associate Degree from Ivy Tech.

After High School, Lonnie served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany as a communications specialist. It was while in Germany that he met his wife Hildegard After returning to the United States, Lonnie worked for Chrysler Corporation as a tool maker in New Castle; Lima, Ohio and for many years in Kokomo.

Lonnie was a member of the Spiceland Friends Church. He was actively involved as a 32nd Degree Mason in the Masonic Lodge F&AM #94 originally in Spiceland and later in New Castle where he recently received his 50 year pin. He had served as a master mason.

In addition he was in Knights Templar, Scottish Rite and was a Shriner. Lonnie had been involved in his community as a member of the Lions Club, the JCs, and the Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of a Civil War re-enactment group where he loved to shoot the cannon.

He will also be missed by the coffee group that meets at the Mr. Fuel Truck Stop. Services are provided by Hinsey-Brown Funeral Services in New Castle with calling on Tuesday, November 20th from 5 until 8PM. at the funeral home.

A Masonic Service will be at 7:30 PM. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 21st at the Spiceland Friends Church with calling from 11 AM until 1 PM with the service at 1 PM with the Reverend Cathy Harris officiating. Entombment will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland.
