William “Bill” Lawrence Niedzielski February 20, 1931 – February 08, 2019 Share this obituary Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card William Lawrence Niedzielski, age 87 of Askov, MN passed away at home on Friday, February 8, 2019. William was the 11th of 12 children. He was born on the family farm in Palmer Township in Sherburne County, MN on February 20, 1931.
He left home in his teens to find work and sent money home to his parents. Willaim was a student of Arthur Murray’s dance school. He married Marjorie Lois Swenson on December 29, 1951 in St. Kevin’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN.
Soon after, William joined the U.S. Navy and served as a boiler operator until December of 1953. They then bought their 1st home on the west side of St. Paul, moved to Martin Lake in Stacy, MN, and settled in Askov, MN in 2001. William was an avid fisherman, hunter, snowmobiler and camper.
He worked for many years on the maintenance crew for the Metropolitan Airports Commission and retired from there in 1989. He supported his 9 children from that job, but also worked odd jobs as a handyman. Those odd jobs allowed him and his wife Marge to travel to all 50 states, all the provinces in Canada and to Europe.
They wintered in Arizona where he joined the Knights of Columbus. He obtained the rank of 4th degree Knight in Minnesota. He was also a member of The American Legion Post #243.
William was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mary (Ziwicki) Niedzielski, son Peter Niedzielski, wife of 62 years, Marjorie Lois (Swenson) Niedzielski, and 10 siblings. William is survived by his children Rebecca Niedzielski of Duluth, MN; Deborah Dinneen of Cottage Grove, MN; Barbara Hall of Cottage Grove, MN; Paul (Carol) Niedzielski of Kerrick, MN; Patricia Niedzielski of Burnsville, MN; Maria Napier of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Anita (Ward) Emerson of Finlayson, MN; Donna Olsen of Sandstone, MN; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister Alma Larson of St. Cloud, MN; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sandstone, MN with Father Joseph Sirba officiating.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Methven Funeral Home, the Rosary will be said on Thursday evening at 7:30 at the funeral home. Visitation also one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Finlayson, MN following the service.
