William Edward Carter, age 71, of Sterling Heights, passed away surrounded by his family, January 14, 2019. Bill was the beloved husband of Patricia (née Cyphers). Loving father of Amy Gartner and Lisa (Dan) Pepe.

Dear grandfather of Ian (Jasmin), Marshall, Danielle, Summer, and Lily. Dear great-grandfather of Bella. Loving brother of Al (Nan) and Don (Laurel).

Bill is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Frances, and six of his siblings. Bill was born in Detroit, MI and graduated from Pershing High School in 1965.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and worked hard to provide for his family. He had the biggest heart and a great sense of humor. Bill loved unconditionally.

Bill had an appreciation for sports cars, muscle cars, and trucks. He especially enjoyed his Corvette, and the annual Woodward Dream Cruise was a favorite event for him. Outnumbered by females in his house, Bill’s punctuality was often stifled and he could be found waiting in his car listening to music, occasionally honking.

Bill was the type of guy who made friends anywhere he went. He liked to spend time with his buddies at the gym and catching up with lifelong friends. He liked to travel, and he especially enjoyed family vacations.

He could keep a straight face until the punchline, while telling jokes to all who would listen. By far though, Bill’s biggest joy in life was his grandchildren. He adored them and loved spending time with them, and they with him.

Whether it was a card or board game in the living room, or just a stroll through the woods behind the house, Bill was happiest when his grandchildren were around. Bill was deeply loved by his family and friends, and he will be dearly missed. Visitation will take place Friday, January 18, 2 – 8 p.m., at Wm.

Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. , Royal Oak (4 blocks E. of Woodward). Additional visitation will take place Saturday, 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m., at the funeral home.
