Obituary for William H. Swan, Jr William H. Swan Jr., 76, son of the late William H. Swan Sr. and Kathryn Kern Swan, of Connellsville, Pa passed away peacefully May 25, 2018 at 9:01 PM in UPMC Shadyside Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 17, 1942 in Connellsville State Hospital. Bill attended Connellsville High School where he played football and ran track.

He graduated with the class of 1960. In 1964 he graduated from Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Economics. Bill owned and operated Swan’s Appliance & Furniture where he retired in 2001.

After retirement Bill worked part time for Chesler’s Furniture for 12 years, and volunteered at Connellsville Community Ministries for years. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and former member of East Connellsville United Methodist Church where he held many offices and served on many committees. He was a member of the Otterbein Friendship Sunday School Class.

Bill served on the Board of Trustees at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio from 1992-2003, was a member of Connellsville Chamber of Commerce since 1964 and was awarded the Distinguished Citizen Award of 2012. He was a charter member of the Connellsville Industrial Enterprises where he helped to develop the industrial park in Bullskin Township. He was a long time member of the Kiwanis and Elks Clubs of Connellsville.

Bill was a 32 degree Mason with King Solomon’s Lodge #346 F & AM and the Shriners. In 2015 he earned his 50 year gold pin. He had a great love for 1950 classic cars and owned several 1950’s models.

Bill attended many car shows and auctions. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving family; his wife of 53 years, Andrea J. Speshock Swan; four children, William H. Swan III and wife Susan, of Greensburg, PA; Kelly Jayne Fuchs and husband Ralph of Transfer, Pa; Amy L. Nagel and husband Mark of Powell, Ohio; Timothy A. Swan; and fiancée Gina Hudock of Connellsville, Pa; grandchildren Sam Fuchs, Jacob, Tyler, and Logan Swan, Nicholas Fuchs, Alysandra Swan, Noah Fuchs, Aunah Swan, Hannah Belle, Claire and Lily Nagel. Sisters Judy Nardone and husband Evan of Connellsville and Linda Brubaker and husband Jim of Chazy, NY; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a sister-in-law, Beverly Davis.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Marjorie Tressler and husband Jim. Bill had a great sense of humor and always had a funny story to tell a group of friends. Bill lived his life for God, family, friends and community.

Family and friends will be received at Brooks Funeral Home, Inc. 111 E. Green Street, Connellsville from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, 2:00-8:00 PM Wednesday and Thursday there will be a viewing at Otterbein United Methodist Church from 10:00-11:00 AM and the funeral service will be at 11:00 AM with the Reverends Elmer Reamer and Dr. Andy Spore officiating. Entombment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park Mausoleum. King Solomon’s Lodge 346 F&AM will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church or Connellsville Community Ministries.
