Obituary for Sarah R. “Sally” Nurminen Sarah R. “Sally” Nurminen, 74 of Acme, Pa. ( Bear Rocks) died Saturday June 23, 2018 at her home. She was born October 10, 1943 in Pretoria, South Africa a daughter of the late Ambassador Arthur Lincoln Richards, former U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia and the late Ida Miles Richards.

Sally was a graduate of the Holton-Arms High School in Washington D.C. and received her Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Chatham University and she received her Masters Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Special Education. She was a teacher of Visually Impaired/Orientation Mobility Instructor for Intermediate Unit 1 for over 30 years. She was a member of the Hearts and Hands Quilt Guild and the Dunbar Historical Society and she was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of God.

She is survived by two children, Kristin Nurminen Olexa and her husband Richard of Acme and John Arthur Nurminen and his wife Yanet C. Nurminen of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and her grandchildren, Cameron Scott Nurminen, Joshua John Olexa, John Alan Nurminen, Justin Arthur Nurminen and Jordan Elizabeth Nurminen. Sally was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband , John I. Nurminen and two brothers, Herbert Miles Richards and John Miles Richards.

As per the wishes of Sally there will be no public viewing or services. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced. All arrangements are under the direction of the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 406 E. Washington St., Mount Pleasant, Pa.
