Obituary for Elda Ruth Coughenour Thompson Elda Ruth Coughenour Thompson, 95, of Connellsville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Thur. May 31, 2018 at the home of her daughter Ruth, with whom she was staying. She was born Aug.
26, 1922 in Centerville, PA. a daughter of the late Merritt W. and Rilla B. Collins Coughenour. Elda was a graduate of Connellsville High School and also Durbin’s Secretarial School.
She had formerly worked at the former Kurtz’s Jewelry Store in Connellsville. Elda was an artisan and seamstress and like to make dolls as a hobby. She also like gardening and had been a member of the Connellsville Garden Club.
She was a longtime member of the East Connellsville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was the leader of the Youth Fellowship. Elda was a wonderful homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family and she will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her loving family, her children Linda Kopff of Ridgewood, NJ. , Ruth Kopff of Connellsville, and Rex Thompson of Georgetown, KY.
, her grandchildren Derrick Kopff and wife Heather, Thomas Kopff and wife Lisa, Danielle Kopff, and Janelle Thompson Hyde and husband Jacob, and her 7 great grandchildren. Elda was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents Elda was predeceased by her husband Clyde Reed Thompson on Aug.
17, 2008, a sister Dorothy Harden, and 3 brothers Mace, Clarence, and Fred Coughenour. Family and friends will be received Sun. from 2-5 and 7-9 PM in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville (724-628-1430).
Additional viewing will be held Mon. from 10-11 AM, the hour of a Funeral Service, in the Greenwood U.M. Church, 501 S. Ninth St., Connellsville, PA. 15425, with Rev.
Doug Johnson officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Connellsville Community Ministries, 110 W. Crawford Ave.
