William V. Mason I, known as “Bill,” passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the age of 66. He was born on October 15, 1951 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Melvin Mason, Sr. and Alice E. Mason. Bill graduated from Niagara Falls High School.

After graduation he was employed by Union Carbide and Goodyear in Niagara Falls, NY and Sunrise Living Healthcare Facility in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to relocating from Niagara Falls to Philadelphia he faithfully attended Word of Life Ministries where he accepted the Lord as his personal savior. After retirement he became a full-time member at LA Fitness in Philadelphia, PA where he was an avid swimmer who worked out daily, played basketball, and faithfully attended Zumba classes where they often referred to him as the assistant instructor.

In the last few years those who spent time with Bill noticed a difference in him which he’d often say was due to his love and relationship with God. Family was near and dear to Bill; he often emphasized the importance of family and the need to fellowship with each other. He loved being around friends reminiscing about the days of old when they played basketball at the YMCA, where he was known as “Doctor J”.

Bill also loved playing hockey and was a member of a local hockey league. Bill will fondly be remembered and cherished by daughter, Dr. Alicia (Pastor Gary) Scott, son, William V. Mason II of Niagara Falls, NY; three sisters, Marie Hare of Charlottesville, VA, Eunice (Eugene) Spann of Glen Mills, PA and Phyliss Mason of Cincinnati, OH; two brothers, Carleton Sr. (Linda) and Myron (Dr. Veronica) Mason of Niagara Falls, NY; three granddaughters, Jalisa Kelly, Teairra and Taliyah Mason of Niagara Falls, NY; Aunts, Rosa (Joseph) Roderick of Atlantic City, NJ, Roberta Polite of Philadelphia, PA and Ellen Thomas of West Deptford, NJ; cousins, Sheryl (Robert) Crawford of West Deptford, NJ and Derrick (Kimberly) Matthews of Willingboro, NJ; special family members, Crystal Leftwich and Phyllis (Henry) Giles of Niagara Falls, NY and a host of other relatives. He will forever be remembered by special friend, Carol Mason of Cleveland, OH and close friends, Ellar James, Grace Glover, Jesse Richardson and Joseph Lowery all of Niagara Falls, NY.

Bill was the brother of the late Melvin Jr, Cynthia, Toi and George. The family will be present on Saturday, June 9th, 2018 from 10 -11am at Word of Life Ministries, 1941 Hyde Park Boulevard, Niagara Falls NY, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11am with Bishop Jesse J. Scott, Sr. officiating. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Niagara Hospice for their compassionate and outstanding care.
