Abraham D. Kauffman, 92, of Oakland, MD, passed away in his sleep, at his home on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. Born on August 24, 1926, in Wayne County, OH, he was the son of the late Daniel D. Kauffman and Emma J.C. (Miller) Kauffman. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Ellis Kauffman; a daughter, Mary A. (Kauffman) Nissley; three grandsons, Marcus, Justin and Darius Kauffman; five brothers, Joe, Eli, Aden, Danny and Benjamin Kauffman.

In his youth, he was baptized upon his confession of his faith in Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of Gortner Amish Church. Abraham was a farmer and a stone mason. He enjoyed woodworking, as a hobby and a business.

Abraham and his loving wife, Ella E. (Weaver) Kauffman were married seventy years and ten days ago on December 23, 1948. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Wayne Kauffman, Mattoon, IL; Paul Kauffman, Oakland; Joe Kauffman and wife, Abbie, Bedford, PA; Abraham Kauffman, Jr. and wife, Sarah, Wytheville, VA; David Kauffman and wife, Linda, Woodleaf, NC; one daughter, Miriam Swartzentruber and husband, Abner, Oakland; one brother, Crist Kauffman, Berlin, OH; one sister, Mary Miller, Fredericktown, OH; one daughter-in-law, Mattie Kauffman, Strasburg, PA; one son-in-law, Calvin Nissley, Jr. and wife, Ruth Ann, Oakland; thirty-three grandchildren; fifty-six great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Friends will be received at Gortner Amish Church, 3271 Mason School Rd.

, Oakland, MD, on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be conducted at Gortner Amish Church on Saturday, January 5th, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. with Bishop Alvin Beachy officiating. Interment will be in Gortner Amish Cemetery. Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland, MD, is in charge of his arrangements.
