Alex Rakotz, a resident of Hastings-on-Hudson passed away on January 30, 2019 at the age of 93. He was born June 10, 1925 in Hastings-on-Hudson to the late Gabriel “Harry” and Stephanida Sloyda Rakotz. Locally Alex was a graduate of Hastings High School, served in the US Navy as a “Seabee” and was stationed in Guam in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.

After returning to Hastings he married Marguerite (nee DeClark) and was a caretaker of the Fraser Estate and later was groundskeeper at the Andrus Children’s Home before retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Hastings Southside Social & Athletic Club, was on the Zoning and Planning Boards and a congregate of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, golf, shuffleboard and a lifelong suffering Mets fan.

Besides his wife Marguerite he is survived by his daughters Barbara A. Clifford (son-in-law Andrew), Stephanie Rakotz (and her partner Michael Recchia) and his daughter-in-law Jeannie Rakotz. Survivors also include his brother John Rakotz as well as three grandchildren Alex, Ian and Anna Rakotz and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son James Alex Rakotz and four sisters, Sophie Karschmidt, Anne Kissel, Mary Loforese and Helen Rakotz.

Visitation will be held today (Friday) from 2-4PM & 7-9PM at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Ave. , Dobbs Ferry. Interment at Mt.
